​"Between the Tides: Coastal rhythms of the communities of the Eastern suburbs"

​

In a very exciting opportunity Dr Marjorie O'Neill MP, Member for Coogee, is supporting the Randwick Art Society (RAS) to apply to exhibit at Parliament House in 2027.

 

The public exhibition space – the Fountain Court – is located within Parliament's main thoroughfare, connecting the heritage façade of the former Rum Hospital to the contemporary offices which accommodate members and staff. The space is open to the public from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm. Visitors attending functions and meetings outside of these hours can view the artworks.

Exhibitions at Parliament House go through a competitive process, where the Presiding Officers determine the successful exhibition based on the quality and suitability of the portfolio of artworks submitted. 

​

If successful, artworks would be displayed for about a month in the second half of 2027. ​

 

TIMELINE​

• September 2026: Application form opens for RAS members to submit artworks, with a photograph of each (up to 3 artworks)

• Start October: Application form closes

• Mid October: RAS Committee curates artworks and notifies members of successful artworks 

• End October: RAS photographs selected artworks

• November 2026: RAS Committee submits application to Parliament House

THEME: Between the Tides - Coastal rhythms of the communities of the Eastern suburbs

 

Artworks can explore how Eastern Suburbs communities are shaped around the rhythm of the ocean - literally or metaphorically.

 

This could include ideas like:

• Eastern suburbs history and memories

• morning, afternoon and evening rituals of beachgoers - swimmers, surf clubs, cafe culture, dog walkers, retirees, tourists, sun baking, nature walks

• how communities, landmarks, and bodies are shaped by weather, time and the ebb and flow of the tide

• beachside culture, people and architecture

• themes of erosion, weathering, preservation and climate change

• beach meets urban density

• wealth and idyllic coastal scenes, decay and renewal, changing communities and identities

 

MEDIUMS: acrylics, oils, watercolour / gouache, ink, drawings, mixed media, collage

 

PRESENTATION: 

• Framed artworks on paper or canvas

• D Rings only attached about 10cm from top of frame

• All artworks must be dry, clean, tidy, undamaged

• No sculptures or photographs

 

SIZE:

• Maximum size = 190cm width by 220cm high

• Minimum size = 40cm x 50cm

• Maximum weight = 8kg

COST: 

• Free to enter an application. 

• $20 per artwork to be paid only if selected by the Committee. 

• We will contact you for payment once the Committee makes a decision on your artwork. 

• You do not need to pay upfront.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY TO EXHIBITION

​

As the exhibition is a competitive process, the RAS Committee will curate artworks from those submitted by members for inclusion in the exhibition portfolio.

​

• Entry is only open to FINANCIAL MEMBERS. 

• Members will need to submit a photograph of their artwork for the Committee to select from with their entry form.

• Members will need to retain submitted artworks until the outcome of the application is known (they cannot be sold beforehand).

• Artworks must be relevant to the theme. 

• Artworks must be created within the last 12 months.

• Artworks must not have inappropriate (e.g. nudity) or offensive content.

• Exhibited artworks will not be made available for sale at the exhibit (no prices listed).

 

All care taken but no responsibility accepted by Randwick Art Society Inc. for any damage or loss.

The RAS Committee has authority to decline acceptance of any entry not complying with above conditions.

 

There is no guarantee your artwork will be accepted, nor any guarantee that the RAS will be selected to exhibit at Parliament House.

If the application to Parliament House is not successful, the RAS Committee will consider organising a separate exhibition with the theme ‘Between the Tides’.
